UREA
About Test
The Urea assay measures the concentration of urea, a waste product formed in the liver as a result of protein metabolism, in the blood. This test plays a vital role in evaluating kidney function and assessing hydration levels. The kidneys filter urea from the bloodstream, making this test essential in diagnosing kidney diseases and monitoring their progression. Individuals with conditions like chronic kidney disease or dehydration often undergo this test. Elevated levels may indicate kidney dysfunction or dehydration, while low levels could suggest liver disease or malnutrition.
